At SWPS we hire employees not independent contractors because it is very important to us that we train and mentor our employees under the SWPS philosophy. In addition our team members have awesome credentials – they aren’t just any old pet lovers.
Ann, Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Ann, who founded Small World out of her life-long love of animals, can be seen around the neighborhood on daily dog walks, on her bike, creating artistic pet portraits with her camera, making “happy books” – her scrapbooks filled with home design ideas, or sitting at a café on Cortelyou Road. Ann is American Red Cross certified in Cat and Dog First Aid and CPR. She is also certified in the Usui System of Reiki Healing, level one. The cats and dogs sure do love it. For more about Ann see About Ann and Boni.
Boni, Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Boni, often seen around the neighborhood with a really large dog on the end of a leash, can also be seen pedaling about on one of his two mountain bikes. Since his overgrown kitchen garden leaves him little room to sit at his nearby painter’s easel, he puts his green thumb to good use in his building’s outdoor garden that he started with his wife, Ann. He also makes a mean guacamole. For more about Boni see About Ann and Boni.
Christine, Pet Sitter
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Christine studied psychology at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. You may recognize her smiling face from from Pawsitive Veterinary in Ditmas Park where she worked.
Since she was a child Christine always loved animals and the class pets always made their way to her home at the end of the school year. She has three adorable cats full of personality, Gil-galad, Sir Terry Pratchett and Pickle Pie, two of whom she bottle-fed as newborn kittens.
She has completed the Dog Trainer Foundations course and is currently taking the Puppy Start Right Course. She will then go onto the Dog Trainer Program to become a Karen Pryor Certified Trainer, and also get her certification in the ASPCA Safer program to help shelter dogs and their future adopters. Christine is American Red Cross certified in Cat and Dog First Aid and CPR.
Deirdre, Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Deirdre is an artist and native of New York City. She is old enough to remember when parking lots served as dog runs while growing up in what became SoHo. However, her family’s two Bullmastiffs (Sugar and Sikes) and mixed Dane/Boxer (Mike the mentor) didn’t seem to mind. Since then she spent time in the San Francisco/Bay area with more canine, feline and some human companions. She returned home to obtain an MFA in painting from Queens College. Hopefully, her dog Zorro, a black Pit/mystery hound rescue, won’t be too jealous. Oddly enough her most recent paintings have been portraits of dogs based on AC&C photos. She never painted dogs before. Synchronicity!
Melissa, Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Melissa is an artist and native New Yorker with a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute. She has had pets all of her life including various fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, turtles and dogs. She currently lives with Hobbes, the cat. She finds working with animals extremely rewarding. When she is not caring for pets as part of the Small World Pet Sitters team or looking after friend’s and family’s pets, she is painting and drawing, riding her bike, practicing yoga or tending to her indoor garden.
Kate, Dog Walker & Pet Sitter
Kate is a musician, composer, and sound designer for theater with an MFA from Yale School of Drama. She grew up in Manhattan with a sweet Abyssinian cat named Miranda, and her extended family has included pet rats, fish, lizards, birds, cats, dogs, horses, and a pig. Kate loves working with animals.
When she’s not caring for pets, she can be found cooking, writing music and recording in her Ditmas Park home studio, playing instruments and singing with friends, or heading to rehearsal for a show.
